Finally Solved my hum (ground loop) problem39 viewsFound this "drake" 15k to 15k bridging input transformer in my parts box and decided to give it a try in effort to solve my hum (ground loop) problem. Amps were quiet with their grounds lifted. However, I never felt real safe doing the lift. Now, with the input transformer the hum is gone :) Mar 01, 2010

DIY TT Shelf40 viewsFirst, I built the base that mounts to the wall out of a couple pieces of 3/4 inch plywood and two pieces of 2x4. Second, used some 2x2 hardwood for the back posts. I mounted the shelving brackets before leveling and mounting the 2x2's to the base support. Note the neat cable raceway, now I can keep the interconnects and speaker cables away from high voltage. RT-707 Plays Holst !30 viewsMy first open reel and the first played through my old Otari by me was a Barclay Crocker copy of Holst "The Planets". So I just thought it fitting to fire up the Pioneer with the same reel. :) Jun 11, 2009

RCA Input Jack39 viewsHave Dremel. Will travel.
I used this tool to rim out not only the larger hole shown here but also the smaller hole on the other part of the bracket needed for the solder side of the RCA jack. In this case, I only changed out the input jack, I left the test jack as it was. Feb 24, 2009

RCA Input Jack38 viewsThe old jack sorta just peels off. Carefully spread the wing tabs back using a good pair of needle noose pliers. If done correctly, the whole thing just falls apart. Feb 24, 2009

RCA Input Jack33 viewsNote that the jack mounting plate consists of two pieces. The flat cover and jack mount plate. I generally use the RCA jacks from Radio Shack. Look closely at the jacks and you will notice a bit of a lip at their base. Because of this lip, one must rim out the hole slightly on the flat cover in order to fit. Feb 24, 2009

Bias Supply Build81 viewsFinally, solder the open leads of the resistor and capacitor to the upper lug of T6. The Bias rebuild is complete. Tabs are still open for connections from the transformer.. Transformer White to T1, Transformer White/Orange to T2, tube bias to T4. For reference, above tabs are labeled left to right T1 through T6. T3 and T5 are not used here.
*Updated* added comments to the picture for tab names and wire locations. Feb 22, 2009

Bias Supply Build79 viewsPull the unsoldered end of the resister (T6) up out of the way for now. Same with the + side of the upper most capacitor in this picture. Then slide (tight fit) the Negative end of the rectifier through the T4 hole shared by the negative leads of the two capacitors. Slide the positive lead of the rectifier into the T1 tag hole. Solder and trim T1 and T4. Feb 21, 2009

Bias Supply Build74 viewsFor proper alignment I mounted the two capacitors and 1.8k resistor to the terminal strip and bent the leads to stabilize. For now I only soldered the T2 tab connection. Note - Already soldered and trimmed T2 before I thought to snap a picture. Feb 21, 2009
