JJ multisection cap132 viewsWhen I breadboarded this amp, I used big oil caps in the PSU. However, I could only squeeze the JJ in the actual amp when I started building.

Mullard 6L6GC64 viewsHere is a Mullard 6L6GC that I pulled out of a Heathkit High voltage bench power supply. There were a pair and if they test good, I plan on probably using in some sort of SE amp.

Harmon Kardon Citation II Amp161 viewsMassive.. I purchased this amp and matching preamp from an audio buddy. Unit had several issues but does play. Issues included lots of noise. After opening it up, I discovered a few issues, fuses in the OPT cathodes, one of which was open, wrongs sized OPT cathodes resistors, wrong size and type of capacitor on the driver tube screen and a few other things. Ordered the Jim McShane power supply kit as well as the two capacitor kits.

Fuses in the Cit II output tube cathode94 viewsSomeone installed these fuses in the Cit II output tubes cathodes, probably as a safety measure for the OPT. The problem is that of the four fuses, two measured 1.5 ohms resistance, one measured 4 ohms and one measured 8 ohms. Also found that the cathode resistors all were 7.5 ohms. Kinda all messed up. Anyhow, ordered Jim McShane's kits and replacement resistors. Will remove the fuses.

High Voltage Saftey Cap installed77 viewsHigh voltage safety cap installed to the ground buss. and Yes.. I will connect the two tabs together (it's a real b***h trying to push that buss through the small hole in the terminal strip) once I get closer to finishing the rebuild. :)

Bias Supply Build73 viewsFinally, solder the open leads of the resistor and capacitor to the upper lug of T6. The Bias rebuild is complete. Tabs are still open for connections from the transformer.. Transformer White to T1, Transformer White/Orange to T2, tube bias to T4. For reference, above tabs are labeled left to right T1 through T6. T3 and T5 are not used here.

RCA Input Jack33 viewsNote that the jack mounting plate consists of two pieces. The flat cover and jack mount plate. I generally use the RCA jacks from Radio Shack. Look closely at the jacks and you will notice a bit of a lip at their base. Because of this lip, one must rim out the hole slightly on the flat cover in order to fit.

RCA Input Jack39 viewsHave Dremel. Will travel.
I used this tool to rim out not only the larger hole shown here but also the smaller hole on the other part of the bracket needed for the solder side of the RCA jack. In this case, I only changed out the input jack, I left the test jack as it was.
20090223_0292.JPG
RCA Input Jack38 viewsThe old jack sorta just peels off. Carefully spread the wing tabs back using a good pair of needle noose pliers. If done correctly, the whole thing just falls apart.

DIY TT Shelf40 viewsFirst, I built the base that mounts to the wall out of a couple pieces of 3/4 inch plywood and two pieces of 2x4. Second, used some 2x2 hardwood for the back posts. I mounted the shelving brackets before leveling and mounting the 2x2's to the base support. Note the neat cable raceway, now I can keep the interconnects and speaker cables away from high voltage.

Top Plate layout308 viewsI used Visio to creat the layout of the top plate. I then printed the drawing on 11x17 which was just about the size of the top plate. I simply taped the paper to the top place and proceded to center punch each place where I would be cutting.
